New Delhi: Global short video creation platform Likee has hundreds of millions of users in India and is growing significantly, on a daily basis, Mike Ong, VP at Likee’s Singapore headquartered parent company, Bigo Technology said.
Ong said since Likee’s launch in India in 2017, the Indian market has grown exponentially and that the app is becoming very popular in big cities as well as tier 2, tier 3 markets.
“The past one year has been exciting for us globally. Likee was placed as the No. 1 app in ‘Top 10 Breakout Apps’ list according to App Annie’s report of 2019. In addition, recently, Likee ranked as the No. 6 Top Apps throughout 2019 and No. 7 of the Overall Worldwide downloads in Q4 of 2019 according to Sensor Tower,” Ong said.
“Likee is growing very fast globally, we also have a strong momentum of growth in India, we believe wil l continue the momentum this year as well,” he added.
Bigo has committed $ 100 million investment in India in 2019 and Likee is an important part for this investment, Ong said.
“We continue to provide a better platform for our users in India. With the current funding, Likee aims to strengthen its platform and increase its consumer reach,” he said.
Bigo is also looking at ramping up its technology team in the country and is scouting for engineers and professionals specialising in artificial intelligence.
“We are looking for engineers and people who can integrate artificial intelligence technologies into our apps. We are also looking at building a content management team here,” Ong said.
Ong said many popular campaigns on Likee saw millions of users getting engaged. “For instance, the #IamIndian campaign on Likee garnered more than 790.60 million views and created world record for maximum waved flags for any nation.
Likee has been in the limelight for many successful and engaging campaigns in 2019 and aims to keep the momentum going,” he added.
